I’ve got you! Check out below answers to your questions:
Do I need any special software or tools?
If you have an Internet connection and Google Docs, which is free, you have everything you need to start ghostwriting.
Will I really be able to write like someone else - to capture their authentic voice?
The real secret of capturing someone else’s voice? No one can do it flawlessly, no matter how long they’ve been writing. The key is understanding how you write and how to make small tweaks to your own writing to bring in your clients’ voice. In many cases, you’ll be able to use their actual words by repurposing content they’ve already created—your job is to gather all that content and turn it into books or articles! And a real secret to success is setting expectations with your clients up-front so they know what to expect and understand that they will have a role to play in the writing as well. I tell them, I do the heavy lifting on the writing but they need to expect to play the role of an editor so (1) they know what’s in their book and (2) can help add even more of their voice. It’s all about setting expectations. They understand and it's never been an issue.
How long will it take me to get my first client?
Now, come on. I don’t have a crystal ball (or even a Magic 8 ball). I can’t tell you that. But what I can tell you is I’ll teach you everything you need to know about how to find that first client. And I find most people either already know their first client or are only a few degrees of separation from them. It's all about positioning yourself, looking at your network differently, and getting comfortable having conversations about ghostwriting that fit your personality—no "selling," just conversations. I’ll even give you email and social media post templates you can use to reach out to your own network to find that person whose book is just waiting to be written—but needs your help!
I’ve never been a “writer” before—is anyone going to take my new business seriously?
As long as you treat yourself like a professional, others will, too. We all start somewhere. You won’t charge as much for your first book as you do for your thirty-first. And just be honest with people when you’re starting. Let them know you’re building a ghostwriting business, have taken Ghostwriter School, and have six months of weekly group Q&A calls with other ghostwriters and your ghostwriting mentor. That'll show them you’re serious and have help if you get stuck. So, as long as you take yourself seriously and be willing to start where you are and grow from there, that’s all that matters. EVERY ghostwriter started with a first project. It's your turn now.
I’ve always heard that you should work for free to build a portfolio. Is that what you teach?
No. To put it another way, nope. Repeat after me: I do not have to work for free. I can charge for my services from the very beginning. Your business is not a charity—you don’t have to give your services away for free. You deserve to be paid for your time and skill—so make sure you are. Your fee will go up as your experience goes up but you don’t need to work for free.
What if I decide that Ghostwriter School just isn’t for me?
If you give the Ghostwriter School content the ol’ college try and you decide that it’s just not what you’re looking for, email us within 30 days of purchase and we’ll refund your money. It's that simple.
Final Question: Which would you rather do?
A.) Continue to live the way you’ve been and accept your current life as your final reality…
OR
B.) Put your foot down and step up to claim the life you know you should and can have?
I know what I would do ;) In fact, I did, and I only wish I had had a resource like this to help me when I got started.
You can achieve the same - a little faster, a little easier with more support, guidance, help, and direction when you join Ghostwriter School.
I can’t wait to see you!
